Extreme users can see thousands of images a day. Far too often though information circulates that has no factual basis. My one request: stop, please?Storified by Stephen Green · Fri, Dec 07 2012 14:23:44The photo below has circulated around Facebook and email this past year. It claims to show a dog fight sponsored by beer-maker Heineken. This prompted some protests of the company for supporting dog fighting.Does Heineken actually support dog fighting? Ummm no.DogFacebookPostStephenGreenHoustonianThis photo is actually from 2010 of a club in Mongolia. Shortly after the photo made its way around the internet scene, the bar's owner released a statement saying the Heineken posters up were put up in the "Elite Crystal" bar. However, he also said they were for a promotional event earlier in the day and were just not taken down.On Sept. 7, Heineken released a statement saying:"Since this matter was brought to our attention via Facebook we have conducted an investigation and now know that: The venue is a nightclub in Mongolia. The venue hosted a dog fight of which we had no knowledge and were not involved in any way. The venue owner has formally confirmed that Heineken banners are visible in the pictures because the previous evening the club had been decorated for a promotional event and he had failed to remove the banners once it was over. This event was in no way related to the dog fight."They subsequently pulled all of their promotional materials and products from the bar in retaliation. Did Heineken support the dog fight? No, or at least there is absolutely no evidence supporting this.
