SHSU volleyball continues eight-game road trip

With a career-high 23 kills, Deveney Wells-Gibson led the Sam Houston Volleyball team to a four-set victory over Nebraska-Omaha, giving the Bearkats a split in their first day of action in the Jayhawk Volleyball classic Friday in Lawrence, Kansas.
This win came after the Bearkats (3-3) were swept in three sets by host Kansas.
Wells-Gibson, who was named Sam Houston student athlete of the week, totaled 24 points. Kendall Cleveland contributed with 15 kills and Tayler Gray assisted more than half of the Bearkats’ total number of kills.
The four sets against Nebraska-Omaha had 10 lead changes and were tied 22 times.
Sam Houston next played Arkansas State, who they would lose to in four sets, making their season record 3-4.
The Bearkats will continue this eight-game road trip on Tuesday as the face the Rice Owls in Houston and will then travel to New Orleans for the team’s third and final regular season tournament of the fall.
