NAACP members gather for their annual meet and greet at Josey Park

Sam Houston’s NAACP held their annual Meet & Greet on Thursday August 30th at Josey Park.

The program featured free food and live music by DJ Eugenius. NAACP’s E–committee introduced themselves to the crowd and mingled amongst them.

“We felt it was very important to make a good impression on every single person there”, said Philichell Pewitt-Hemphill, second vice president of the organization, “this is the first time a lot of them will be seeing NAACP and we want to spread the right message. A message of unity.”

The organization seemed to have succeeded in spreading that message thus far.

“[The NAACP] really has made me feel welcomed” said Junior Aspen Davis, “I love that they do these kinds of things for the people in their SHSU community.”

Junior Gieselle Walker shared her sentiment.

“NAACP was one of the first organizations I saw on this campus and I knew it was a good fit for me from the beginning” said Walker, “I was immediately drawn to the warm, open atmosphere they provided at every meeting and event.”

Many of the Meet & Greet attendees were very satisfied with the event and seem to look forward to coming to many other NAACP functions in the future.

Meetings are every Thursday @ 5 p.m. in Lowman Student Center 320.
