HUNTSVILLE- Pitcher Cody Dickson held Arkansas to three hits in the first six innings before coming off the mound to allow Sam Houston State to post eight runs in Saturday’s 8-1 victory.
SHSU evened their second home series against the Red Wolves 1-1 after a first inning rally from the Bearkats’ offense to open up a six inning shutout.
Centerfielder Colt Atwood hit 2-3 and set the Bearkats up for two multi-run innings in the bottom of the first and the bottom of the sixth. Atwood was caught in a run down with a fielder’s choice during Ryan O’Hearn’s at-bat to set up runners on second and third for Hayden Simerly to single in two RBIs.
After 6.2 innings and six strike outs, Dickson was replaced by reliever Jordan Church who walked in the Red Wolves first and only run of the night. Church was replaced by closer Michael Burchett who closed the eighth and ninth inning for the Bearkats.
SHSU will close out their three game home series with ASU Sunday at 1 p.m.
