Freshmen Spence Rahm connected for two doubles and two RBIs to push Sam Houston State over Louisiana-Monroe 7-3 to win the series 2-1.
Rahm doubled in the third inning to drive in Anthony Azar and Kevin Miller to extend the Bearkats’ lead 4-0 in the bottom of the third. Rahm scored off Luke Plucheck’s single into left to make it 5-0.
Starting Pitcher Andrew Godail pitched six innings for seven strikeouts on 86 pitches and silenced Warhawk power hitter Corben Green with two strikeouts. Godail lost steam in the sixth inning loading the bases with five hits allowing ULM to rally and narrow the Bearkats lead 5-3.
Rahm’s second double in the seventh followed by Hayden Simerly’s single drove in two runs to carry the Bearkats beyond a Warhawk comeback. Relief pitcher Jordan Church and closer Logan Boyd halted ULM with three strikeouts in the eighth and ninth inning.
SHSU will hit the road to face off against University of Texas Tuesday.
