Sam Houston State University topped Texas A&M Corpus-Christi 2-0 Friday night at Pritchett Field.
The lone senior of the Bearkats, Tricia Mallory, had a stellar performance in front of the packed crowd that came to watch during SHSU’s senior night.
Mallory connected off a cross from sophomore midfielder Mariah Titus to put the Bearkats up 1-0 seven minutes into the match. Mallory’s strike came from outside the eighteen-yard-box to go over Islander’s goalkeeper, Audrey Baldwin, and puts Mallory at one goal away from tying SHSU’s all-time leading goals record.
The Bearkats controlled the possession early and continued to dominate throughout the whole match.
The defense also had a stand-out game by holding strong in the back with freshman Miriah Hadley filling in at center-back position for the usual starter, Colby Glover, who went down with an injury this past Sunday. Hadley would have to be replaced midway through the second half after going down with her injury, leaving Mallory to have to drop back and lead the team from defense.
Titus continued her breakout season by adding another goal to her name leading SHSU’s in goal this season with 7 goals.
The goal would be the finishing touch for SHSU to capture the win and give them a 5-4 record in Southland Conference play.
The Bearkats will play their last game at home for the season when they take on Southeastern Louisiana Sunday at 1 p.m.
