Cody Dickson tossed a complete game to hold Louisiana-Monroe in Sam Houston State’s 4-2 win to split the series going into game three Saturday.

Dickson finished the evening throwing nine strikeouts and eight scoreless innings after a slow two inning start to maintain a strong defensive outing against the Warhawks.

Freshman Spence Rahm ignited the Bearkats at the plate at the bottom of the fourth after trailing Monroe 1-0 for three innings. Rahm singled to right field was followed by five consecutive hits to drive in four runs. Ryan Farney’s double drove in Rahm and third baseman Kevin Miller to break the tie.

Dickson threw uncontested by Warhawk bats before loading the bases in the top of the seventh with one out facing a Monroe rally. Dickson forced two groundouts to close the inning, allowing zero runs to cross home plate.

SHSU will close out their three series against the Warhawks Sunday at Don Sanders Stadium with the first pitch at 1 p.m.
