Deveney Wells-Gibson led the way with 12 kills as the Sam Houston State volleyball team defeated Houston Baptist in three sets to extend the Bearkats’ winning streak to six games Tuesday night at Johnson Coliseum. Five out of the team’s last six wins have all been sweeps.

Kendall Cleveland and Haley Neisler added 10 and 11 kills, respectively, in the match and the Bearkats outscored the Huskies 59-33.

Sam Houston is now 11-9 for the year as Houston Baptist’s record stand at 12-10.

No time was wasted as the Bearkats scored five straight in the first set to make the score 8-2, which they would go on to win 25-19.

They continued to dominate in the second and third sets, winning 25-19 and 25-14, making the match last only one hour and 11 minutes.

The Bearkats never trailed the Huskies and the score was only tied once at 1-1 in the first set.

Sam Houston travels to Louisiana tonight for a conference matchup with McNeese State. Start time is 7 p.m.
