After hearing the news, Jackson TN Euthanasia, a group that aims to find homes for dogs that in euthanasia shelters posted about the dog on their Facebook page.

"He hunched another male dog so his owner threw him away because he refuses to have a 'gay' dog!", the group wrote posted on its page, leading to thousands of online comments in protest of the owner's actions and pleading others to adopt the dog.

She told ABC News she saw the dog on an adoption website and made plans to rescue him before his story went viral on social media.

Since rescuing the Elton, Fryns said he "was pretty friendly so far. He's pretty scared of everything, which is understandable. But he loved his car ride."

Despite Elton's rescue, the story has attracted backlash from social media users who criticized the owner reasons for turning the dog in outrageous.
