OSU star Marcus Smart pushes fan

On February 11, 2014

For a guy with the last name "Smart," Oklahoma State's biggest star did something pretty stupid Saturday. With 6.2 seconds left in the Cowboys' eventual 65-61 loss to Texas Tech, Marcus Smart shoved a fan standing on the baseline.

Smart recognized his mistake, according to Yahoo news:

"This is not how I conduct myself," said Smart, a top NBA prospect. "This is not how the program is run. This is not how I was raised. I let my emotions get the best of me. It's something I'll have to learn from, a lesson I'll have to learn from. The consequences that are coming with it , I'm taking full responsibility. No fingers pointing, this is all upon me."

The Oklahoma State star has been suspended three games after shoving a fan, later identified as Jeff Orr, in the final minutes of his team's 65-61 loss at Texas Tech, Cowboys coach Travis Ford announced. Smart was handed a technical foul after the incident but was not ejected from the game.

The fan, Orr, said:

“My actions last night were inappropriate and do not reflect myself or Texas Tech — a university I love dearly. I regret calling Mr. Smart a 'piece of crap' but I want to make it known that I did not use a racial slur of any kind."

Smart will miss games against Texas, Oklahoma and Baylor. Ironically, he can return for the Cowboys' Feb. 22 home game against Texas Tech. Ford said Smart will be allowed to practice during the suspension.

It wasn’t “smart” for Smart to push Orr due to the fact that people will say dirty things all the time throughout his career as a basketball player whether it’s in college hoops or the NBA. Sometimes you have to be bigger than the words that people may say and just keep it moving.

This is nothing but a mistake that Smart will learn from and continue to better himself as a player and individual.
