Billy Joel, Shirley MacLaine will be the next artists honored at the Kennedy Center Honors. The honorees, who will be seated with President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, will be saluted by performers from Hollywood and the arts.
The Kennedy Center Honors is an annual honor given to those in performance art for their lifetime of contribution to American culture.
Ever since 1978, the Honors have been presented annually in Washington, D.C.
MacLaine is an American film and theater actress, singer and dancer. She has been awarded the Golden Globe Award on three separate occasions, an Academy Award and an Emmy Award. She has most recently been seen in “Coco Chanel”, “Bernie”, “Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning” and the television show “Downtown Abbey”.
Being a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, it is no surprise that Billy Joel is being honored by the Kennedy Center. Joel is an American pianist, singer-songwriter and composer.
Since releasing his first hit, “Piano Man”, Joel has become the sixth best selling recording artist in the United States. He has written and performed songs such as “Vienna”, “New York State of Mind”, “Only the Good Die Young” and the ever-popular “Piano Man”.
The 36th annual Kennedy Center Honors will air on Sunday, Dec. 29 from 9-11 p.m on CBS.
