Current Issue:

Que pouvons-nous faire?

Abstract:
Parlez-vous français?

It's difficult at Sam Houston to get a "oui" in response to that question. Why do you suppose this is? Some would speculate that the reason for this is a lack on interest in the French language. French is in the decline as far as internationally utilized languages. In fact I would go so far as to say that French has not been the "international language of business" for more than 50 years. English is now the world recognized language for conducting business with other nationalities.

I support our Foreign Language department's teaching of French, but to declare that French is more valuable to a graduating student than say Chinese is foolhardy.
