The Houstonian is hiring for the Fall 2011 semester. If you are interested in honing your journalism skills and interacting with journalists from across the state at the annual Texas Intercollegiate Press Association competition, please consider joining our team. Here is a description of the available editorial positions: Editor-in-Chief: In charge of all editorial aspects of The Houstonian, including selection of editors and reporters, the oversight of story assignment and overall design of the paper. The Editor designs pages one and lifestyle. Associate News Editor: Primarily generates and oversees the flow of stories for the paper, works closely with both staff writers and practicum students and contributes major stories and columns. The Houstonian garners awards at Texas intercollegiate press competition

By Jessica Priest Web and Multimedia Editor The Houstonian took home a total of 10 awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association, or TIPA, at its annual competition in Fort Worth this past weekend. Sports Reporter Lotis Butchko, a senior print journalist major, received second place in the Feature Writing on-site contest. In addition, the Houstonian’s Editor-in-Chief Meagan Ellsworth received an honorable mention for a previously-published news feature story entitled, “Pot reform not ‘half baked’,” which appeared in the newspaper in October of 2010. She also took home second place in the previously published headline category.
