The end is here for the Jersey Shore cast as MTV announced earlier today that the show's upcoming sixth season will be it's last.
"The rumblings were true, indeed. MTV confirms today that Season 6 of "Jersey Shore" will signify the beginning of the end for the series, which made international icons out of eight and a half (can't count out Angelina--she gave at least a 50 percent effort) self-proclaimed guidos and guidettes," the announcement said. "With nicknames uttered more often than pop culture bloggers type in all caps--nicknames such as Snooki, "The Situation" and SamRon--their Crayola bright faces and allegiance to animal print will always be remembered fondly. But now it's time to say goodbye."
With colorful cast members "The Situation", Snooki, Jenni "JWOWW", Sammi "Sweetheart", Dina, Ronnie, DJ Pauly D and Vinny, the show became a huge success after premiering in December 2009. Since then, the cast members have become household names while their phrases like "DTF", "Gym, Tan and Laundry", "Smush room" sparked a new language in pop culture.
Some of the stars of the show took to Twitter to express their feelings about the end of their run on the show.
"Yes, sadly it's true," said Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi on Twitter. "This upcoming season of Jersey Shore will be our last. But it was fricken INSANE. I will always love my roomies!"
Other cast members expressed gratitude to the show's millions of fans.
"It's been one hell of a ride but this is just the beginning!" Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola on Twitter. Thank you all for your love & support throughout ..."
Fans also took to MTV"s website to share their feelings about the show's final season.
"I'm going to miss them," one user commented. "They made my Thursday (Jerzday) nights so much fun."
While the show is coming to a close, "Jersey Shore" is still survived by its two spinoff series "Snooki and JWOWW", which has been picked up for a second season, and "The Pauly D Project", which is still up in the air, according to E! News. The final season of Jersey shore will air on October 4 on MTV. The network will also premier a TV special titled "Gym, Tan, Look Back" on Sept. 6 before the Video Music Awards, according to E! News.
