An honor student was allegedly shot in the back while in a Chicago park days after performing with her dance troops from the King College Prep High School at President Barack Obama's inauguration.
Michael Ward, 18, and Kenneth Williams, 20, have been charged with first degree murder for allegedly shooting 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, police said. Police picked up both men hours after Pendelton's funeral.
Pendelton's death was the 43rd homicide of the month in Chicago, which is dealing with a sharp rise in the number of fatal shootings.
Williams told police he was shot on July 12, but he refused to sign a complaint. Ward and Williams decided to mistakenly target Hadiya's group of friends to retaliate, police said.
The rise in shooting fatalities in Chicago, including Pendelton's death, are just more proof that gun policies need to change, don't you think?
